Cletus Eugene Widener, 80, a resident of the Newberg, OR community went home to be with the Lord on August 28th, 2013 at Arbor Oaks Terrace Memory Care.
A private burial service was held on September 4th, 2013 at Fir Lawn Memorial in Hillsboro, OR.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday September 7, 2013 at the Buxton Assembly of God Church in Buxton.
A second memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday September 21, 2013 at the Newport Assembly of God Church: 236 NE 6th Street, Newport, OR 97365
Cletus was born on October 25, 1932 in Paden, OK. He was one of ten children born to Aaron Jessie and Lula Stella (Helvey) Widener. He moved with his family when he was four months old to Live Oak, CA and it was here he was raised and received his education.
He met Betty Lucille Korsmo and they were married in 1950 in Riverside, CA. They made their home in Riverside until 1960 when they became agricultural workers which had them traveling to many different places in the western United States. They finally settled in Hillsboro, OR in 1970. Betty passed away in 1989 and in 1992 Cletus married Julta “Olene” Black. Cletus and Olene made their home in Buxton in 1995. Cletus moved to Newberg in 2011.
Cletus was a warehouseman for Western Batteries and a frame cutter Mercer Windows. He had also worked as a roofer, a sawmill operator and as a sharecropper as well as many other jobs.
Cletus was first and foremost a man of God. He also enjoyed the outdoors including fishing, hunting and camping. He loved the beach and would go crabbing and clam digging. He was an accomplished wood worker and Cletus enjoyed gardening.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty, a son; Russel Dean Widener, nine siblings and his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Julta-Olene Widener of Buxton, five children; Juanita and Randy Vanderzanden of Aloha, OR, Randy Widener of Forest Grove, OR, Debbie and Ken Boeshans of Hillsboro, OR, Jeff Widener of Salem, OR, Marilyn and David Maynard of Mountaindale, OR, 5 step-children, 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 12 step grandchildren and 19 step great grandchildren.
