Laurine Janette Grossen

–

Forest Grove, Oregon

Laurine Janette Grossen, 92, a resident of the Helvetia community passed away on January 20, 2021 at the Forest View Senior Care Home in Forest Grove.
Laurine was born on October 23, 1928 in Hillsboro, Oregon.  She was the oldest of three children born to Benjamin and Deborah (Wismer) Leu. She was raised on the family farm in West Union.  She attended the two-room school house in Rock Creek and graduated from Hillsboro Union High School with the Class of 1947.  She worked as a payroll clerk for PGE for 10 years.
She met her future husband Glen Grossen, while she was growing up in her small community. They both attended grade school, high school and church together but didn't start dating until after Glen came back from serving his time with the Marines. They married on July 8, 1955 at Bethany Presbyterian Church where they both were lifelong members.  They made their home on Glen's family farm in Helvetia. Laurine and Glen raised their three children together; Marianne, Mark, and Debbie.
Laurine was a loving and devoted mother to her family. When her youngest child was in grade school, she took a teacher's aide position at West Union Elementary School for 16 years.  Laurine was also a big part of the family nursery business – from hot house tomatoes, raising Daphne, to rooted cuttings. They also started Grossen Peaches.  She loved talking to the peach customers and still reminisced about the old peach days of summer and how much she missed it.
She loved all sorts of animals but especially horses.  She helped Glen lead his dairy 4-H group and especially looked forward to fair time. Laurine was a member of the West Union Garden Club.  She enjoyed the outdoors, camping and hiking with her family.  Dinner was always ready at 6pm but her children would wait for her to honk her car horn instead of ringing a dinner bell. She was an avid canner, prepped food for winter and was an excellent baker.  Glen and Laurine always took time for each other traditionally it was Saturday evening pie "date" in front of a TV program at the house.  Family and community continued to be a priority for her.
Laurine is preceded in death by her loving husband, Glen, her parents and her brother, Merlend.
She is survived by three children and their spouses; Marianne and Kevin Evers of Gaston, Mark and Donna Grossen of Helvetia, Debbie Grossen of Hillsboro, her sister; LeAnn Collier of West Union, six grandchildren; Ray, Kari, Nicholas, Jonathan, Grant and Glen and two great grandchildren; Wyatt and Hunter.
The family suggest donations to the Bethany Presbyterian Funeral Fund
